We had a nice, restful three day holiday to Sunrise Acres over Thanksgiving. Rustic cottages on a farm here in Kenya owned by some semi-retired AIM missionaries …They even let us milk the cow!
There was no internet -so we played lots of games, read some books, went for walks, and had a family football toss. Disclaimer: We are not the most athletically inclined family! We also had a hotdog and marshmallow roast on our last evening. Fun times:)
On Tuesday, after we returned to Nairobi, our CMT ( Crisis Management Team) was activated for the medical evacuation of one of our little MKs in South Sudan. He was a very sick 2 year old! We praise God for Christian organizations like AIM, MAF, and Samaritans Purse who are willing to fly into remote areas to evacuate missionaries in need! The family arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday and their baby boy is being treated at the local Children’s Hospital now. It is really neat to see our SIM folks come together to bless this family with meals, babysitting (they have four kids) and hospital visits!
As our family celebrates Christmas, we also celebrate 9 months back on the African continent. This is the advent Christmas tree calendar we have been carrying all over the place the last 12 years! IMB Missionary Barbara Workman made it for us back before Benjamin was born in Johannesburg South Africa!
And this is our simple version of a Christmas tree and decorations. We had fun making paper chains. Maybe simple is not so bad…
We will miss all of our family and friends who are far away this holiday. And we will be thinking of you throughout the month. Pray that our hearts will be focused on Christ and the selfless love He showed. He came humbly into a culture not His own to give us not the glitter and gold we desire, but the very salvation we so desperately need.
May His love overflow from our hearts and lives and may He be always glorified.
